How much should a basic Domain for use as a Designers Portfolio cost me?
yeah I am gonna have to save a bit of money, but It will be worth it.
Can I just go with the basics or do I have to pay a bit extra to actually make something worth while?

so far my best experience for hosting various websites has been Go Daddy. They are very reasonable and support is fantastic.

Shawn has a viable answer. GoDaddy offers good service, inexpensive and reliable uptime!
Now if you need Massive bandwidth and whole bunch of gigs of storage (T-1 or T-3). Quest or Level 3 would be a good choice. Be prepared to get off of yer wallet.

As a designer it is better to go for UNLIMITED domain hosting- you will have to pay only once and you can host hundreds of domains with one account.
