A Married Couple Becomes Alarmed About Their Abusive And Excessive Drinking And Wonders If They Exhibit Any Signs Of Alcoholism

Lenny and Angie have been married for five years. They wanted to have some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have children and so they consciously constructed an extraordinarily vibrant social life.

The chief difficulty, it needs to be pointed out, is that just about everything they do with their family and friends is associated with drinking. For instance, all of the happy hours, parties with friends, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they patronize have something to do with drinking.

If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be a big deal. Due to the fact they drink in an excessive manner, nevertheless, they are starting to notice some apparent alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.

For example, just six days ago Lenny was apprehended by the police for his first DUI and has been overlooking responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. What is more, Lenny's last three performance reviews at the office have been less than laudable and he has begun to forget what he does or says when he drinks. Lastly, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to display some disquiet about his drinking situation.

Not unlike Lenny's situation, Angie has been feeling unhappy about things in her life and to handle these feelings, she has been drinking more frequently than any time in the past year. Moreover, Angie has been getting more than a few throbbing headaches and having excruciating hangovers from drinking. Lastly, Angie has been feeling notably less energetic in the morning, she has been getting to work late virtually every Monday, and she has been getting some negative criticism from her coworkers, family members, relatives, and friends about her excessive and careless drinking.

One Wednesday evening while watching TV, Angie and Lenny happened upon a documentary about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This TV special was a real surprise to Angie and Lenny because many of the alcohol facts that were listed gave them the impression that they were unquestionably associated with several of the drinking difficulties Lenny and Angie had been going through.

With thoughts of the television program still running through her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been displaying could mean that they are addicted to alcohol or possibly becoming alcohol dependent. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare practitioners at the nearby drug and alcohol treatment clinic to find out more about the seriousness of their drinking issues.

Paradoxically, although their drinking behavior hadn't yet changed, it was obvious that Lenny and Angie were at least addressing their drinking difficulties, they were excited about finding out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in finding out how they could notably decrease or get rid of the drinking-related issues that had started to go from bad to worse.

When Angie and Lenny went to bed that evening, they determined that the next day, Lenny would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility located in the middle of town. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to triumph over the alcohol-related difficulties that had manifested themselves in their lives, they actually had the most revitalizing night's sleep they could bring to mind in the last three months.
