An Alcohol Dependent Individual Enrolls In Rehab And Gets Alcohol Detoxification And Rehab For His Alcoholism

Donald used to boast to his drinking pals how he could work at a difficult and full-time job and get inebriated almost every night. Unfortunately, after involving himself in this party lifestyle for approximately two-and-a-half years, he began to experience a variety of alcohol related difficulties.

For example, he had a very difficult time getting up for work because he felt so worn-out when he awoke. Not only this, but almost every morning Donald suffered through an intense hangover. Obviously, the mixture of his lack of get-up-and-go and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel like he wanted to go to work. To make things worse, he recently got his second drunk driving arrest in the past nine months.

To complicate things further, at his job his last two work appraisals were less than tolerable. And lastly, his four-and-a-half-year relationship with his girlfriend had gone downhill due to his financial difficulties, lack of patience, angry outbursts, and his depression.

Although Donald was only twenty-five years old, he frankly started looking like he was in his early forties. Regrettably, this is what abusive and careless drinking can do to an individual. And in all candor he realized that he was experiencing the negative consequences of alcohol addiction or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to fritter away his life to abusive and unhealthy drinking. So initially he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Sadly, he soon understood that he lost all control after drinking his first alcoholic beverage. Due to the fact that this was a situation that was repeated virtually every time he drank, this troubled him greatly. In actual fact, he started to wonder if he was manifesting some of the stages of alcoholism.

After going over his alcohol drinking problems and his irresponsible and hazardous drinking with his lady friend, he finally decided to make an appointment to see his physician. When Donald saw his family doctor, he actually declared that he has been drinking in an abusive manner, that he may be displaying behavior that is illustrative of the different alcoholism stages, and that he wants to abstain from drinking. He then declared that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not seem to work for him and as a result, he wants to learn how he can live without drinking alcohol.

Donald also told his healthcare practitioner about his depression and how this mental health problem was adversely influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His physician referred Donald to Doctor Lenson, a drug and alcohol addiction therapist, who motivated Donald to enroll in an alcohol and drug treatment center as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. The good news is that Donald would also be able to get medical treatment for his depression at this treatment clinic.

After five months of rigorous treatment, Donald left the in-patient rehabilitation clinic and continued his recovery via outpatient counseling and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a healthier way, Donald joined a fitness center and began working out two or three times per week. Within four months Donald was a new man. He was eating nutritious meals, he was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, and most significant of all, he remained sober for numerous months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more loving individual in his relationship with his lady friend. Stated briefly, quitting drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
