Question by .com: Web Hosting Questions?
alright… I know a fair bit about computers, but I know very little about making websites
I am running a mac right now, and I put together a website using iWeb, I know apple wants you to put the websites you design on their mobileme server, but there is a option where it asks for an ftp server address, username, password (not required), directory/path, protocol (it gives you options) and a place to enter a port, I assume this is all to enter information given to you by the hosting service you are paying to put your website on their server, correct?
so I know you need either a server (I am not gonna pay for that) or a webhost, and a domain name, what are the steps to get your website from iWeb to the internet?
also, what is your preferred, the cheapest, and the best webhost out there
thank you very much
email me if you have questions about my question haha
i meant i am not gonna buy a server

Not sure about the iWeb thing, but GoDaddy.com is what I use and it is cheap and reliable. There are also discounts you can get if you go to www.retailmenot.com and enter the address.
If you want free then blogger or wordpress is the way to go.

Friends, I’m going to host a website. Planned to make it a social website. Now the hosting i choosed provides unlimited shared hosting for $ 70 per year and Virtual private server(VPS) hosting for $ 12 per month. Shared plan comes with unlimited features(Everything). But VPS comes with following.
Root Access- Available
Disk Space-10 GB
Guaranteed RAM-128 MB
Burstable to RAM-256 MB
Bandwidth / Month-100 GB
Linux OS-Cent OS
Dedicated IP address-1
24/7 support- available
Self-managed VPS- available
Monthly Price-$ 12
Cpanel- $ 10/month
Fantastico + RV Skin-$ 4/month
Additional IP-$ 2/month
Extra Bandwidth (Per GB)-$ 0.50/month
Daily backups-$ 5/month
128 MB-$ 5/month
256 MB-$ 10/month
512 MB-$ 15/month
1024 MB-$ 25/month
Now my question can i use VPS hosting without cpanel? can i choose it? Is this VPS plan is good? Are is there any VPS plan cheaper than this?
Answer by John S
According to your requirements you could go for a shared hosting which will cost you around £5/m and if you need less space like 5GB per site than even its more cheaper like £1.66 /m. try http://www.sky.uk.net here you can get both Linux and Windows hosting on same price.

Question by guitarman1989: How can I advertise Guitar lesson live with web cam free?
I have played guitar for 25 yrs and been teaching at local music store for 18 yrs. I had an idea that maby I could teach live online with web cam. I have been researching other web sites that offer this and they charge anywhere from $ 25 to $ 50 per half hour. I want to charge way less than this more like $ 14 per half hour or $ 25 for whole hour. But I cant figure out how to advertise it cheap. If I pay for web hosting and create my own site then I would be paying alot to advertise and I would be forced to charge more for the lessons. Please give me any ideas you may have thanks.

If you were to rely on Pay per click advertisement, then yes it might be more expensive. However, if you can invest some time, then you won’t need to rely on paying out cash.
Make a couple of videos, and add them to a “Free Lesson of the week”, and create social media profiles on Digg.com, mixx.com, stumbleupon.com and add your videos to their network with descriptions. There are many similar sites like those 3- Get out there and create full profiles. This will get people watching your lessons, and get interested people to your site. If your lessons are good, then you’ll convert a good number of people into subscribers. Just make sure it’s easy to transition from free viewer to paid viewer.
