With Salesforce’s new Community Cloud, companies can create their communities, in the LinkedIn style, but for their customers, partners and employees.

Built on the Salesforce Community Cloud Platform – via Connect API – companies can directly connect to Salesforce CRM and data sources and third-party systems. In this way, companies can deliver better service to their customers, more sales through partners and increase employee engagement. Salesforce research shows that digital communities guarantee 48 percent faster problem resolution, a 48 percent increase in employee engagement, 45 percent more customer satisfaction and 43 percent increase in sales through partners.

Community Cloud has a new feature called Targeted Recommendations which seeks to promote user engagement on these sites. The new feature, which is based on algorithms that analyze structured and unstructured data, is designed to bring members of the community the most relevant content, as inputs, resources, files and groups. The community managers can suggest content to specific information or an ad in the news and direct it to a group member type or a specific individual.

The second new feature now available is called Lightning Community Builder and Templates, and allows any business user community to deploy a customized, branded and optimized for mobile devices without the need to seek the help of IT. Companies can use Lightning Builder to create your own custom communities with custom applications. For example, a non-profit institution could build an application to organize volunteer events and incorporate it into the home page of your community.

Finally, Salesforce Connect for Google Drive Files is a new feature that allows community members to share any file created or stored in Google Drive. Thus, a marketing team could share a file from Google with the campaign planning group to easily access and work on it. You can also attach files within Google Drive to a record, as sales opportunities or service case.

According to IDC, the enterprise collaboration market was $ 1.24 billion in 2014, and the market expected to reach $ 3.5 billion in 2018, an annual growth of 23.1%. The sector as defined by IDC includes software for collaboration internally and externally. Other major players such as IBM Connections, Microsoft Yammer, Jive Software, Tibco Tibbr, Zimbra and SAP Jam also have a foot in this market.

Last year, Microsoft and Salesforce have signed a strategic partnership to create new solutions that will enable you to connect the platform and the CRM app to Windows and Office apps. The agreement provides that the Salesforce CRM solution is integrated with the Windows OS, the Azure cloud platform and the office suite Office 365.

Oracle Cloud Platform was enriched by nearly 24 new services for developers, IT professionals, end users and analysts to achieve, to expand and more easily integrate cloud applications. They are Oracle Database Cloud – Exadata Service, Oracle Archive Storage Cloud Service, Oracle Big Data Cloud Service and Big Data SQL Cloud Service, Oracle Integration Cloud Service, Oracle Mobile Cloud Service and Oracle Process Cloud Service.

With the new services launched, companies can move all their applications hosted in the data center to the cloud Oracle. Oracle now claims to be the only cloud provider to offer a full range of enterprise software services, platform services and infrastructure services under the banner Oracle Cloud Platform. Compared to Oracle, cloud providers have chosen to focus on certain services: Salesforce.com has specialized in software and services Amazon has essentially focused its activity on infrastructure services.

The provider has also launched several integrated cloud services that must allow companies to move their operations to the cloud, including a service to develop and execute mobile applications directly from the Oracle cloud and an integration service which allows them to combine multiple enterprise applications into complete systems.

Oracle now offers online services for enterprise resource planning, managing the customer experience, management of human resources, management of business performance, and management services supply chain. The aim of these new offerings is to make Oracle a single window for all the cloud computing needs.

Oracle Databases deployed in the cloud as part of this service is 100% compatible with those deployed on-premises, thereby enabling a smooth migration to the cloud and seamless transition to a hybrid cloud strategy. The Oracle Big Data Service Cloud and Big Data SQL Cloud Service is a secure and efficient platform to run various loads on Hadoop and NoSQL databases and to help companies collect and organize their big data.

Oracle Mobile Cloud Service offers a set of Android applications development tools or iOS operating entirely in the cloud. The developer can use Mobile Cloud to build a user interface or to configure an API for data exchange. All development will be done entirely through a browser, so it is not necessary to install software on the desktop machine to each developer.

Developers can use their favorite languages ??or go through the Mobile Application Framework Oracle framework. The service also includes a software development kit (SDK) that allows developers to follow their application, for example to know who uses it and how it is used.

The company also launched a service called Oracle Integration Cloud Service, which allows companies to work together their different enterprise applications and cloud services. Finally, Oracle has updated Business Intelligence Cloud Service, in particular by equipping it with new data visualization tools.

Oracle wants to clearly position themselves to Amazon, its main competitor, which also offers various solutions in the cloud. To attract customers, the company also said that the group is ready to compete with Amazon on price. Oracle claims 70 million users in the cloud. According to the analyst firm IDC, the cloud infrastructure market segment registers second highest growth. As a logical consequence, the technologies that the basis for the cloud, such as servers, storage systems and Ethernet switches, account for 30% of expenditure in 2015, against 26.4% in 2014.

The growth of Cloud IT infrastructure continues to outperform the overall market of IT infrastructure, driven by companies’ decision to move their workloads to cloud platforms. In this context, HP maintained its position as No. 1 in the world with a 15.7 % market share, followed by Dell (11.9%), Cisco (9.3%), EMC (7.2%) NetApp (4.4%) and Lenovo (3.6%).

However, it is noteworthy that this upward trend is certainly general in the world, with the exception of areas of Eastern and Central Europe, where the cloud infrastructure sales declined over the period. IDC attributes this to the unstable political and economic climate.

The report says “end users continue to evaluate various approaches to adopting cloud-based IT: some integrate public cloud service into their IT strategies, others choose to build their own private clouds or use third-party private cloud offerings, and some, seeing benefits in both, implement hybrid cloud strategies. The breadth and width of cloud offerings only continue to grow, with an increasing universe of business- and consumer-oriented solutions being born in the cloud and served better by the cloud. This growing demand from the end user side and expansion of cloud-based offerings from service providers will continue to fuel growth in spending on the underlying IT infrastructure in the foreseeable future.”

Investments are growing in both public cloud and private cloud. But it is the public cloud that carves the lion’s share with two-thirds of the cloud infrastructure expenditures dedicated to them. While sales of private cloud rose 24.4% to $ 4.2 billion, those of public cloud have evolved similarly, a 25.5% increase to $ 3.9 billion.

The report further noted that “Cloud IT infrastructure growth continues to outpace the growth of the overall IT infrastructure market, driven by the transition of workloads onto cloud-based platforms. Both private and public cloud infrastructures have been growing at a similar pace, suggesting that customers are open to a broad array of hybrid deployment scenarios as they modernize their IT for the 3rd Platform, begin to deploy next-gen software solutions, and embrace modern management processes that enable agile, flexible, and extensible cloud platforms.”

In the next five years, IDC expects spending on cloud infrastructures continue to grow, and their share of total infrastructure spending should increase to 50% as companies continue to turn increasingly to the public cloud.

Serverless computing may kill Google Cloud Platform

Google, which has had to claw its way back into cloud relevance in the shadows of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, suddenly finds itself playing catchup again, thanks to the rise of serverless computing. Although Google Cloud Platform still trails AWS and Azure by a considerable margin in general cloud revenue, its strengths in AI and container infrastructure (Kubernetes) have given it a credible seat at the cloud table.

Or would, if the world weren’t quickly moving toward a serverless future.

Cloud computing reversal: From ‘go away’ to ‘I can’t miss out’

Isaac Asimov once said, “I do not fear computers. I fear the lack of them.” That quote has stuck with me to this day. There’s no doubt that computers and computing have changed our lives. Without them, we would be slaves to processes and paper.

I was reminded of Asimov’s quote when I saw the results of a recent poll done by Comvault of 100 IT leaders. More than two thirds said that they were worried about keeping up to date with the latest products and iterations across the major cloud providers. In other words, they fear missing out.

About a quarter (24 percent) of those polled said they were a cloud-only organization, which perhaps means they are very small or very new businesses. Additionally, 32 percent said they are cloud-first, with plans to become cloud-only, so they are likely mid-sized businesses. Also, 6 percent said they did not have a specific migration plan, which means they are BDCs (big dumb companies).
