Ford Motors‘ announced recently that it had invested $ 182 million in Pivotal, a cloud based software company, to further strengthen its software abilities. This investment is part of the company’s initiatives to expand into an auto and mobility company. Ford is already into a partnership with Pivotal and the two companies are working on several projects for the mobility segment of Ford. The current investment is aimed towards an expansion in the use of advanced software development methodologies, analytics tools and Pivotal’s cloud platform throughout Ford’s Product Development and IT teams. Earlier this year, Ford had announced the launch of “Ford Pass” a part of its “Ford Smart Mobility” initiative which was the beginning of Ford’s transition into an auto and mobility company. The investment in Pivotal will strengthen the existing relationship and fit well in Ford’s overall transformation strategy.
